Homework is sent home weekly each Monday by your child's teacher. Homework should be turned in each Friday. If you have any questions regarding the homework please contact your child's teacher. Reading Log: The expectation for first graders is to read every night for at least 20 minutes. Your child's teacher will provide you with a monthly reading log. The team asks that you please write the title of the book and how many minutes your child reads each night in the space provided on the reading log.
Math Homework: Weekly math sheets are sent home each Monday. The sheets reinforce the concepts being taught in class. Students will be expected to complete one math sheet each night. Please make sure your child is showing their work in the space provided or on extra sheets of paper. Math homework is collected by your child's teacher each Friday.
Reading Comprehension: Each month your child receives a new reading comprehension choice board. On the choice board, there are 6 different questions and we ask that your child complete 3 questions per week on the lined paper provided. Please make sure your child writes the date, question number, and book title along with their answer. The book your child uses to answer the questions can be a book you have read together, but we encourage your child to answer the questions using a book they can read independently. This will help increase their reading comprehension skills. Word Work: Students are flex-grouped for word work. This means that they are grouped with same-level peers based on their placement tests. Flex-grouping allows us to reach each student at their own level and differentiate to meet their needs. Your student is assigned homework based on their flex-group level. Students bring home word lists at the beginning of each month and are expected to complete three word work activities from their choice board per week.
